A Excellent Free Medical Book

Ship’s Medicine Chest and Medical Aid at Sea is a book that has been publish by the U.S. government for over 100 years, it is designed for use on ships at sea that do not have access to medical personnel. Over the years, this manual has seen many changes. The current one is available for downloading on the internet at https://www.fas.org/irp/doddir/milmed/ships.pdf

It is published by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Public, Health Service, so it has no copywrite. I have an earlier edition and have had a chance to review this new addition. In some ways I like the earlier editions better, the new one assumes you will have radio contact with medical personnel. The earlier ones were designed for independent use.

That aside the manual is well worth downloading. It’s a large well written book that is easy to understand and  contains lots of useful information. The appendix at the back gives some excellent suggestions for the content of a medical kit. For free it is a real bargain.
